Supporting adult stem cell research over embryonic does not mean someone is against stem cell research. For example: the world’s leading embryology professor, Ian Wilmut of Edinburgh, Scotland (cloned “Dolly” the sheep), stunned the entire stem cell research community when he announced last year that he was turning from embryonic research in favor of adult skin cells. The professor did not base his conclusions on religious or moral preference but on solid scientific principal. Interestingly, Professor Wilmut has never believed embryonic research to be unethical. The public, not aware of the progress being made, blame the administration for holding back research, however, Neurologist Dr. Carlos Lima, addressing the House of Lords in England reminded all in attendance that even though it is a fact that government funding for embryonic research had been limited in both England and the US, ESC research has been going on unfettered for more than 11 years in the rest of the world including China, Russia, Korea, India and Germany. Still in spite of the research a successful therapy has not been developed anywhere in the world.
